The message is stored in the URL, so very long messages produce very long URLs. Most browsers handle URLs up to around 2,000 characters, which is enough for a paragraph or two. If the message is significantly longer, the link may be truncated in some messaging apps.
Can the recipient see the message without scratching?
No. The message is hidden under the scratch surface and there is no skip button. The recipient has to scratch to reveal it, which is the whole point.
